Quip of the day from a colleague, during group meeting:

"It is better to have loved and lost, then to have loved and married."

The PDB is primarily an archive for structural data determined by experimental methods. In the past some theoretical and homology models have also been deposited with the PDB. As of October 15, 2006, the wwPDB no longer accepts theoretical models, following the recommendations of a workshop held at the RCSB at Rutgers University in November, 2005. At this meeting, a working group of experts in a variety of related fields decided that PDB depositions should be restricted to atomic coordinates that are substantially determined by experimental measurements on specimens containing biological macromolecules. This includes, for example, structures determined by X-ray crystallography, NMR and EM and does not include models determined purely in silico using, for example, homology or ab initio methods. The outcome of the workshop and its recommendations have been published [ref].

There is quite a bit this extract says about the nature of scientific activity. Can you spot it all?
